John "Bear" Thompson
July 17, 1971 - January 30, 2025

Bear was a beloved and well-known figure in the Ocean City Fishing Community. As an attendant at the fishing pier, he was always there to greet visitors with a warm smile. His extensive knowledge of fishing, combined with his genuine willingness to help others, made him a trusted source of advice and a cherished companion to all who knew him. His presence will be deeply missed by the countless individuals he assisted and inspired over the years.

Oceanic Fishing Pier

The Oceanic Fishing Pier is a classic wooden pier stretching over 450 feet into the inlet in Ocean City, Maryland--- where the Ocean meets the Bay.
It’s a great place to fish and you don’t need a license! The Pier is open 24 hours from Memorial Day until Labor Day.
You can expect to find anything from bluefish, stripers, shad, flounder, tautog and seabass to sharks, rays, and horseshoe crabs.
Whatever you catch, the pier is equipped to handle it, with rod holders, cleaning tables, lights at night, and plenty of benches.
